This article describes how to use McAfee Installation Designer (MID) to install Help files for VirusScan Enterprise before you push the software out to the network.
VSE Help files are no longer supplied in the default installation package. This change was made to make the VSE installation package smaller so it would use fewer network resources. For this reason, VSE must download the relevant Help file when Help is first used. In some environments, this download might not be possible because of access limitations or bandwidth concerns. In such situations, you can use McAfee Installation Designer (MID) to install the required Help files during the installation of VirusScan Enterprise.
Perform the following steps:
- Download the needed files.
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://secure.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/my-products/login.aspx?region=us.
- Log on with your Grant number and select the relevant product group.
- Download the following software packages as required:

- Install McAfee Installation Designer.
- Create source and destination folders and copy the Help files to be included in the new package:
- Create a folder called MySource to be used for the default installation files.
- Create a folder called MyDestination where the completed package will be saved.
- Extract and copy the installation files for VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i to the MySource folder.
- Extract the contents of the VSE Help file and copy the appropriate version of the Help file for VSE to the MySource folder.
- Find and select the language file required for your installation in the table below.

- Rename the language file selected.

- Use MID to create the installation package that includes the Help files:
- Start MID.
- In the Welcome screen, keep the default settings and click Next.
- Set the Source and Destination folders to the MySource and MyDestination folders created above.
- In the column on the left, select Additional files and click Add.
- To select the Source File, browse to the MySource directory and select vse.chm.
- From the Destination folder drop-down list, select Program Files.
- Set the Sub-folders option to McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\Resxxxx (where xxxx is the four-digit number that identifies the localized version of the Help files - see the table above).
Example: When using the Spanish language file, set Sub-folders to: McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\Res0a00
- Ensure that all entries are correct and click OK.
- Make any other adjustments to the package by selecting relevant options from the column on the left.
- Click Finish, Save, and Exit.
This step creates the MID package and saves it in the specified Destination directory (the MyDestination folder).
The custom installation package you have created installs the VSE Help files during the installation of VSE. These files no longer have to be downloaded when Help is first used.
