CfgNaiMs.exe is no longer available in ePO. ePO now uses a web-based interface to configure database connectivity settings. Incorrect configurations can cause database connections to fail with either of the following errors in the orion.log (<epo installation directory>\server\logs\orion.log):
Detected a possible mismatch between the server and database.
Failed to establish a database connection java.sql.SQLException: Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect


To open the Database Configuration page for ePO using a web connection:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Open the Configure Database Settings page. Go to https://<servername>:8443/core/config.

    NOTE: If you do not use the default port (8443), substitute the console logon port you configured. You can use a specific server name in the previous example only if you can resolve that name in your environment. 
  3. Under Configure Database Settings, modify the following entries as needed:
    • Database server
    • Server instance
    • Database name
    • Authentication type
    • User name
    • User password
NOTE: If you change any of the above entries, make sure that you click Test Connection (lower-right corner). The test verifies that the connection to the database is successful with the new settings before continuing.
  1. Click Apply.
  2. Restart the ePolicy Orchestrator Application Server service:
    1. Press Windows+R, type services.msc, and click OK.
    2. Right-click the following services and select Restart:
      McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator x.x.x Application Server
      McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator x.x.x Server
      McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator x.x.x Event Parser
  3. Verify the ePO console loads.


To change the config-auth page, perform the steps below using either of the following account options:
  • A SQL account
  • A trusted NT account
Option 1 - Use a SQL account:
  1. Use the steps from Solution 1 to access the Database Configuration page. 
  2. Select the option use the SQL SA account.
  3. Change User name field to SA.
  4. Type your password in the Password field.

Option 2 - A trusted NT account:
  1. Use the steps from Solution 1 to access the Database Configuration page. 
  2. Complete the following fields:

    User name
    User domain
    User password
    Confirm password

  3. Click Test connection.
  4. When validated, click Apply, and then close the Configuration page.

Restart ePO services and then log on to the ePO console:
  1. Click Start, Run, type services.msc, and click OK.
  2. Right-click each of the following ePO services and click Stop:

    McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Server
    McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Event Parser
    McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Application Server

  3. Close the Services window.
  4. Log on to the ePO console.

    NOTE: Renaming the 'Orion.log' (<ePO installation directory>\Server\Logs\orion.log) before starting services, generates a new log at service start. This action is helpful for validating that the issue is resolved.
