This article describes the files used by VirusScan Enterprise 8.x for updates.
Basic Information: The files in the Current directory and its subdirectories must remain intact and unmodified for VSE to update. This new update structure provides security and allows VSE to support many different types of packages in the updating process. Included are .DAT files, Scan Engines, updates, and Service Packs.
The files used by VSE for updating are at this McAfee HTTP site:
HTTP: update.nai.com/Products/CommonUpdater
NOTE: As of May 31, 2019, McAfee no longer offers software or AV updates through FTP for any product.
Core Files used in the update process:
File name |
Description |
SiteStat.xml |
The SiteStat.xml is the first file downloaded during an update task. It is used to determine the availability of the repository site.
|
catalog.z |
The catalog.z file informs VSE what files are currently available on that update site. The Common Management Agent (CMA) compares this information against what is installed on the client system and only downloads the needed files.
|
*.mcs files |
The .mcs files are secure script files used by CMA for several tasks. The DATInstall.mcs script installs the .DAT files during the AutoUpdate process.
|
PkgCatalog.z |
The PkgCatalog.z file informs CMA what files are contained within a repository package. CMA uses this information to determine what is needed to download. |
Replica.log |
The Replica.log is used by McAfee AutoUpdate Architect or McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator in the replication process. It provides a list of available files and hash values to ensure security.
