Unable to download file SiteStat.xml (after changing Internet Explorer proxy settings)

Problem

Download of latest DAT files from configured sites fails with error:
Unable to download file SiteStat.xml
 
Unable to find a valid repository
 
Computers that had previously been updating successfully from an internal or external FTP or HTTP server with VSE are now failing after a change to the proxy server configuration on the web browser.

Cause

The Microsoft Internet Explorer Proxy settings were modified.

Solution

Configure both Internet Explorer and VSE to use a Proxy Server.
  1. Set the Internet Explorer proxy settings to the previous settings:
    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. Click ToolsInternet Options.
    3. Click the Connections tab.
    4. Click LAN Settings.
    5. In the Proxy Server section, select Use a proxy server for your LAN. 
    6. In the Address box, type the address for the proxy server.
    7. In the Port field, type the port number for the proxy server.

      NOTE: Address and Port designations vary from environment to environment. If this information is unknown, contact the Firewall Administrator to find the correct designations. 

       
    8. Click OK to save the proxy settings.
    9. Click OK again to exit any open remaining dialog boxes.

       
  2.  Reconfigure the VSE 8.x proxy settings:
    1. Open the VirusScan Console.
    2. From the main menu click Tools, Edit AutoUpdate Repository List.
    3. Click the Proxy Settings tab and select Manually configure the proxy settings.
    4. In the HTTP or FTP fields, type the Address for the proxy server / firewall, depending on the destination (HTTP or FTP).
    5. In the Port field, type the port number for the proxy server.

      NOTE: HTTP, FTP, and Port designations vary from environment to environment.
       
    6. Click OK.
