Summary

Sometimes you have to manually remove VirusScan for Mac 8.6.x. This article describes how to completely remove the product with the removal script that is supplied in the VirusScan for Mac installation set.

Solution

NOTES:
  • The following procedure completely removes VirusScan for Mac from your computer and you will have no anti-virus protection.
  • Type in an administrator password if prompted.
  1. In the Finder, click Go Utilities and open Terminal.
  2. Type the following two commands, pressing ENTER after each one:

    cd /usr/local/vscanx/
    ./"VirusScan Uninstall.command"

You see the following output text in the Terminal window:

Uninstalling VirusScan for Mac 8.x
Shutting down VirusScan daemons...
Removing VirusScan Application Folders...
Removing VirusScan Support Files...
Removing VirusScan Engine...
Removing VirusScan Support Documentation
Cleaning up.....
VirusScan for Mac has been successfully uninstalled.
logout
[process completed] 

VirusScan for Mac is now completely removed from your computer.

IMPORTANT: McAfee recommends that you re-install the latest release of VirusScan for Mac as soon as possible to ensure that your Mac is protected.
