Summary

Sometimes you cannot remove McAfee products using Programs and Features or Apps & features (depending on your version of Windows) in the Windows Control Panel (for example, if you can only access a system remotely using a command prompt). You can create a script or batch file with an uninstall string to simplify the global removal process.

Locate the uninstall command in the Windows registry and use it to remove the product as follows:

CAUTION: This article contains information about opening or modifying the registry.
  • The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
  • Before proceeding, Technical Support strongly recommends that you back up your registry and understand the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
  1. Press Windows+R, type regedit and click OK.
  2. Navigate to one of the following registry keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow6432Node/McAfee/ePolicy Orchestrator/Application Plugins

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow6432Node/NetworkAssociates/ePolicy Orchestrator/Application Plugins

    NOTE:
The registry key will change if the McAfee Agent is installed before the point product is installed. McAfee products might be listed under both registry keys, but will have to be removed only once if the uninstall string is identical.

  3. Select the key for the product that you want to remove. For example, EPOAGENT3000.
  4. Right-click Uninstall Command and select Modify.
  5. Highlight all of the text in the Value data field, right-click, and select Copy. For example:

    EPOAGENT3000\Uninstall Command = "C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\FrmInst.exe" /Remove=Agent /Silent

  6. Click Cancel.
  7. Close the registry editor.
  8. Press Windows+R, type Run, paste the contents copied from step 5 into the Open field, and then click OK.
The product will now uninstall.

NOTE: You can use the Uninstall Command value in batch files to automate the software removal process.
