Cause

One of the following has occurred post successful install of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise:
  • UpdateSubSys is not registered and a registry key is missing:

    HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\Interface\{D831533D-0324-4EA4-B3FD-073AFE85181}

  • UpdateSubSys.DLL is missing

Solution

If UpdateSubSys.dll exists on the system

Re-register the UpdateSubSys.dll to repopulate the Registry:
  1. Click Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.
  2. Type the following command and press ENTER:

    Regsvr32.exe c:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\UpdateSubSys.dll

  3. When the registration completes, DllRegisterServer in UpdateSubSys.dll succeeded is displayed.
  4. Click OK.

Solution

If UpdateSubSys.dll does not exist on the computer (or if Solution 1 does not resolve the issue)

Obtain UpdateSubSys.dll from another computer:
  1. On another computer running the same version of VirusScan Enterprise, locate UpdateSubSys.dll.
  2. Copy the UpdateSubSys.dll from the Common Framework directory to a portable media or network share that can be accessed by both machines.

Default path for the Common Framework directory: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework

  3. Copy the replacement UpdateSubSys.dll to the Common Framework directory on the target computer.
  4. Click Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.
  5. Type the following command and press ENTER:

    Regsvr32.exe c:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\UpdateSubSys.dll

  6. When the registration completes, DllRegisterServer in UpdateSubSys.dll succeeded is displayed.
  7. Click OK.

Solution

If the solutions above do not resolve your problem and other DLLs/files are missing or not registered, re-install the McAfee Agent and VirusScan Enterprise.
