On-demand scans set to Run when Idle continue to run after the computer comes out of the idle state
Technical Articles ID:
KB59743
Last Modified: 7/17/2020 EnvironmentMcAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.x
ProblemScheduled VSE 8.x on-demand scans (ODS) set to run when Idle continue to run, even after the computer comes out of the idle state.
Mouse actions or starting applications do not stop the ODS. NOTE: The scan task does correctly wait for the computer to go into an idle state before starting. When the computer is not idle, the VSE 8.x console displays the status for the ODS as Running. Only after the ODS has completed, does the console show Run when Idle.
Users of ePO-managed computers see that the ODS task does not wait for the computer to go into an idle state. All ePO-scheduled ODS tasks (with when idle selected) behave as if configured to Run Immediately. Also, because of being treated as a task that is set to "Run Immediately" when the task is invoked on the endpoint. The task does not run again until a change is made to the existing task. Cause
Changes to the security model in recent Microsoft service packs for Windows caused the issue.
SolutionMcAfee has determined that the Run when Idle task feature can't be made to work with newer Microsoft Service Packs.
