Frequently Asked Questions:

I just received an email from McAfee saying my WHS platform is at EOL.  What does this mean?
This means:

  • Total Protection Service software on WHS systems will not be upgraded to the recently launched McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection 5.2.
  • WHS systems will continue to be supported at version 5.0 level of features and functionality until June 30, 2012.
  • McAfee will continue to send DAT updates (protection for updated virus definitions) for the duration of your subscription.
  • Technical Support will be discontinued for the Total Protection Service on WHS systems on June 30, 2012.
  • However, you can continue to receive DAT updates on WHS systems for the duration of your subscription ensuring continued protection.

I need to renew my subscription for Total Protection Service for WHS now, but I got an email saying WHS is at EOL. What are my options?
You can continue to renew your subscription until May 30, 2011. However, you can renew only for one year at this time.

When can I purchase this solution, because I don’t see other alternatives in the market?
You can purchase a one-year subscription for this solution until May 30, 2011.

Do you recommend any other product that I can buy to protect my WHS investment?

Unfortunately, there are not many  vendors who offer this support. McAfee does not recommend any alternative at this time.

My subscription is until <any date after June 30, 2012, for example, Nov 1, 2013>. End of Life is June 30, 2012. Will I get a refund?

McAfee is offering DAT support for the duration of your subscription even if it is beyond the EOL date to ensure your WHS system remains protected. Therefore, no refunds are offered at this time.

I do not see the 2 or 3 year subscription option in the online store for WHS anymore. Why?

Since the end of Technical Support is June 30, 2012, McAfee does not want to offer subscriptions for a duration beyond the EOL date.

When you say I can continue to get DAT updates for the duration of my subscription but no Technical Support after June 30, 2012, what do I do if the DAT updates cause a problem on my machine?

McAfee DAT files are tested in a triple redundant way to ensure the highest quality before it is pushed out to customers. The probability of DATs causing problems on your WHS system is therefore extremely minimal. To continue to get DAT updates without Technical Support is an option that you have. Alternatively, you can use your valid subscription on any other supported platform listed at: http://mcafee.com/us/enterprise/products/hosted_security/saas_endpoint_protection.html, and get Technical Support for those platforms.
