How to uninstall and re-install McAfee Agent on a Mac

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 4.x, 5.x
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Apple Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later

Summary

This article describes how to uninstall and re-install MA on a Mac.

Problem

MA does not communicate with the ePO server, or has not installed fully.

Solution

To uninstall MA on a Mac:
  1. Log on as an administrator or with root account permissions.
  2. Open the Terminal window.
  3. Type the appropriate command for your MA version and press ENTER:
    • For MA 4.8: sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/uninstall.sh
    • For MA 5.x: sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/scripts/uninstall.sh
       
  4. Type the logged on administrator or root account password and press ENTER to uninstall the agent.
     
    NOTE: During the removal, the messages stopping McAfee agent and McAfee agent stopped display.
     
  5. Restart your Mac when uninstallation is complete.

Solution

To install MA on a Mac:
  1. Log on as an administrator or with root account privileges.
  2. On the ePO server, copy the file install.sh from the following location to the desktop:

    <ePO installation directory>\DB\Software\Current\EPOAGENT3700MACX\Install\0409 

    You can also download the MA installation package from the ePO web console by doing the following:
     
    1. Log on to the ePO console.
    2. Click System Tree.
    3. Click System Tree ActionsNew Systems.
    4. Select Create and download agent installation package from the How to add systems section.
    5. Select Non-Windows from the Select Agent Package section, type the required credentials, and click OK.
       
  3. On the Mac, open the Terminal.
  4. To navigate to the desktop, type cd desktop, and press ENTER.
  5. Type sudo chmod +x install.sh and press ENTER.
  6. Type the password when prompted.
  7. To begin the installation, type sudo ./install.sh -i and press ENTER.
  8. Type the password when prompted.
You are notified in the Terminal window when the installation is complete.
