Access Protection and Buffer Overflow Protection drivers remain loaded when disabled
Technical Articles ID:  KB65820
Last Modified:  12/16/2009

To reduce the overhead for some process-heavy tasks, some VirusScan Enterprise users disable Access Protection and Buffer Overflow Protection. Even though the features are disabled, the drivers remain loaded in memory.

This issue was first resolved in Hotfix 464768 for VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.7i, which has now been added to the existing cumulative patches. Disabling the Access Protection and Buffer Overflow drivers now yields the expected performance increase.

McAfee product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available from the Product Downloads site at: http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

You will need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, as well as alternate locations for some products.
