Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.x, 4.x

Problem

CmdAgent.exe does not run with the Run command on a Windows client if the logged on user does not have administrative permissions.

You see the following error if you try to run the CmdAgent.exe command with any switch parameters on a client:

ERROR: C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\CmdAgent.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You might not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

ERROR: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\CmdAgent.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You might not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

Solution

Run CmdAgent.exe with administrative permissions:
  1. Click the Windows orb and type cmd in the Search bar.
  2. Right-click Cmd.exe from the list and select Run as administrator.
  3. Change directories to locate the CmdAgent.exe file and run the command with the appropriate switch.

NOTE: This procedure is required only once per logon session. After you supply credentials for the Run as command, any subsequent attempts will be successful.
