How to create an installation log for the Data Loss Prevention agent

Technical Articles ID:   KB67024
Last Modified:  1/22/2020

Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint - all supported versions
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

For details about the DLP Endpoint supported environments, see KB68147.

Problem

When ePO deploys the DLP agent, a log file is not created by default. Without a log file, it is hard to troubleshoot installation issues.

Solution

Deploy the DLP agent through ePO
  1. Log on to the ePO console.
  2. Click System Tree.
  3. Click the Assigned Client Tasks tab and edit the Product Deployment task.
  4. In the Products and Components list under the Configuration tab, select the existing version of McAfee Data Loss Prevention.
  5. Type following into the Command-line field:

    /L*v %TEMP%\DLPAgentInstall.log

  6. Click Save.

NOTE: After the client task finishes, you can find the installation in the %TEMP% folder on the client.

Solution

Install the DLP agent locally on the client computer
  1. Copy both DLPAgentInstall.exe and DLPAgentInstall.msi files to a temporary folder on the client (for example, C:\ ).
  2. Click Start, Run, type cmd, and click OK.
  3. Type the following command and press Enter:

    c:\DLPAgentInstall.exe /L*v "%TEMP%\DLPAgentInstall.log" ‚Äč

NOTE: You can find the log file in the %TEMP% folder, even if the installation fails.
