Summary

This article describes how to enable debug logging with SiteAdvisor Enterprise (SAE) Plus 3.0 and SAE 3.5. McAfee Technical Support uses debug logs when troubleshooting SiteAdvisor issues.

Solution 1

SAE Plus 3.0
Create a new DWORD and restart the services.

CAUTION: This article contains information about opening or modifying the registry.
  • The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
  • Before proceeding, McAfee strongly recommends backing up your registry and understanding the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a .REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.

  1. Create the DWORD value:
    1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, then click OK.
    2. Navigate to the following registry key:

      32-bit systems
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\SiteAdvisor Enterprise Plus

      64-bit systems
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\McAfee\SiteAdvisor Enterprise Plus

    3. Right-click SiteAdvisor Enterprise Plus, and select New, DWORD Value.
    4. Name the new value LogLevel.
    5. Double-click LogLevel, then set the DWORD value to 4.
    6. Click File, Exit.

  2. Restart services:
    1. Click Start, Run, type services.msc, then click OK.
    2. Right-click McAfee SiteAdvisor Enterprise, and select Restart.

  3. Collect the log files to give to McAfee Technical Support:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\McBrwCtrl.dll\log.txt
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\McSACore.exe\log.txt
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\saUpKeep.dll\log.txt
IMPORTANT: Disable debug logging after you collect sufficient details: Delete the registry entry and restart the SiteAdvisor service.
