How to configure VirusScan Enterprise and set folder exclusions for Host Data Loss Prevention to improve performance

If your system performance is significantly affected by scanning, Intel Security recommends excluding DLP content from scans.

This article explains how to exclude a list of DLP processes and folders from being scanned by the VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) scanning engine.

To exclude DLP processes:
  1. Open the VirusScan Console.
  2. Right-click On-Access Scanner and select Properties.
  3. Select Default Processes.
  4. Enable different scanning policies for high-risk, low-risk, and default processes.
  5. Click Low-Risk, then click Add.
  6. In the Select Application section, click Browse...
  7. Type the processes to exclude:
    • fcags.exe
    • fcagte.exe
    • fcagswd.exe
    • fcag.exe
    • fcagt.exe

      NOTE: The default locations for these processes are:

      C:\Program Files\McAfee\DLP\Agent
      C:\Program Files\McAfee\DLP\Agent\Vista32
  8. Click Open to add the process to theSelect Application List.
  9. Click OK to close the dialog.
  10. Click Scan Item Tab, then disable when writing to disk and when reading from disk.

You should also exclude the following DLP folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DLP\
