Viruses and vulnerabilities in the wild:

Solution

What to do if you have a FakeAlert issue:
  1. Ensure that you have the latest Microsoft and Adobe security updates. Security updates are available from Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Microsoft Download Center, and Adobe Product Updates.
  2. Verify that you are using the latest DAT files and run a manual update if necessary. McAfee Labs updates signatures every day for recent variants of FakeAlert.
NOTES:
  • If your system does not update, download and run the latest XDAT file. See below for downloading.
  • McAfee Labs Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. See below for information about using Stinger or to download it.

To download a DAT, Engine, XDAT, or Stinger file, go to https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-us/downloads/security-updates.html.

You might need to download these files if your automated update fails, or if you want to use an Extra.DAT on an infected system.
