NOTE: Removable Media Protection (offsite access options) is the new name for Endpoint Encryption Removable Media (EERM).

Problem

You see the following error when you open an Excel 2007 file from the unprotected area of a Removable Media Protection encrypted device:

The workbook cannot be opened or repaired by Microsoft Excel because it is corrupt.

You can't open an Excel file on a Removable Media Protection encrypted device when the following Removable Media policy option is enabled:

Make unprotected files and folders read-only (when used with EEFF)

You can open other Office 2007 file types such as Word or PowerPoint without error.

Solution

This issue is fixed in 4.0.0.26.

Workaround

Two options are available:

Disable the Removable Media Protection policy option: Make unprotected files and folders read-only (when used with EEFF).
For more information, see the relevant FRP product guide.

For product documents, go to the Product Documentation portal.
Copy the Excel file to the local hard drive and open the local copy.
