McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8 Patch 1 and later
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 5 Repost
Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

After you install VSE 8.7i Patch 5 Repost or VSE 8.8 Patch 1 or later, HyperV servers on Windows 2008 R2 show Cluster Shared Volumes as:

 Online (Redirected access)

If you try to bring the shared volume online, you see the following error:

The Action 'Turn off redirected access for this Cluster Shared Volume' did not complete.

NOTE: VSE functionality is not impacted.

If you run the fltmc command, it reports the following:

Filter Name
Num Instances
Altitude Frame
404900 1
329998.99 <Legacy>
321300.00 0

System Change

You installed one of the following:
  • VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 Patch 1 or later
  • VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 5 (repost)

Each filter instance requires a unique altitude.

The whole-number portion is pre-assigned so the suffixes (.00) through (.99) are used to deal with upgrade scenarios where a new filter version must coexist with a previous one until you restart your computer. This usage is consistent with Filter Manager's own method of dealing with <legacy> filters.

Microsoft has confirmed that a Cluster (Windows 2008 R2) will put a Cluster Server Volume (CSV) in redirected mode if a filter’s Altitude is not an integer.

The following Microsoft KnowledgeBase article hotfix resolves the issue where Redirected Mode is enabled unexpectedly in a Cluster Shared Volume when you are running a third-party application in a Windows Server 2008 R2-based cluster.

To obtain the hotfix and instructions to address this issue, see the Microsoft article 2674551http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2674551.

Install a version of VSE that has not adopted the new drivers, for example:

  • VSE 8.7i Patch 4 or earlier
  • VSE 8.8
