Environment

McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange 8.5.x, 8.0.x
Microsoft Exchange 2010
Microsoft Exchange 2007

For product supported environments, see KB82890 and KB76903.

Problem

When the Security for Microsoft Exchange anti-spam rule attempts an update, an error similar to the following is recorded in the Windows Application Event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSME
Event ID: 2170
User: N/A
Computer: Server1
Description: The description for Event ID (2170) in Source (MSME) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Updating Anti-Spam Rules failed with error 80052112.

Cause

These error messages are recorded whenever anti-spam rule updates cannot be found.

Solution

An update might not be available every time the anti-spam rule attempts a download. This error can be safely ignored if anti-spam rules are eventually updated.
