Problem

The McTray icon (McAfee icon in the systray) is terminating unexpectedly when Host IPS 8.0 is installed.

You see the following error in the Windows Application log file:

Faulting application name: McTray.exe

Faulting module name: RPCRT4.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7ba59 
Exception code: 0xc0020043, Fault offset: 0x0005cd99, Faulting process id: 0x16dc 
Faulting application start time: 0xMcTray.exe0, Faulting application path: McTray.exe1,  Faulting module path: McTray.exe2 , Report Id: McTray.exe3  ,None

NOTE: The bold text sections in this error are important criteria to match.

Solution

This issue is resolved in Host IPS 8.0 Update 5, which is available when you log on to the ServicePortal at: https://support.mcafee.com/downloads.

Updates are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.
