Summary

On October 22, 2015, McAfee announced the five year End of Life (EOL) for McAfee Email Gateway (MEG) software and appliances. For details, see KB85857

This article explains McAfee Email Gateway 7.x Installation menu options.

Solution

McAfee Email Gateway 7.x (MEG 7.x) installation menu:
 
When you start the MEG7 installer, you are presented with a menu allowing you to choose your install options. Currently selected options are highlighted, and marked with an asterisk (*).
The following options are available:
 
Install types
  • b – Full install mode: Erase all data on the Appliance, and perform a clean installation (default).
  • c – Full upgrade mode: Preserve existing configuration and queued emails. This option is only available on an Appliance which is installed with EWS v5.6p1 or later.
  • d – Upgrade preserving network configuration only: Preserve network configuration and it will erase all policy configuration and queued emails.
  • e – Upgrade preserving configuration only: Preserve network and policy configuration and it will erase all queued emails.
FIPS mode
NOTESelect these options as needed before pressing a to perform the installation.
  • k – Enable FIPS 140-2 level 1 compliant installation.
  • l – Disable FIPS 140-2 level 1 compliant installation (default).

Post install options 
NOTE: Select these options as needed before pressing a to perform the installation.
  • h – Power off at the end of the install (default).
  • i – Halt at the end of the install.
  • j – Reboot at the end of the install (default).

Select your installation options by pressing the appropriate key(s). When the required options have been selected, press a to begin the installation. 

Non-installation options are also displayed, which do not require you to proceed with the installation. Only options that are available for your installation are shown. Press ENTER to see the help for each option, including the reason for that option not being shown (if applicable).

Non-install options
NOTE: These options these are not affected by the installation options chosen and do not require you to proceed with an installation/upgrade.

  • w – Reset password to factory default: Reset the MEG 7.x administrator password.
  • x – Do nothing and reboot: Exit the installer and reboot.
  • y – Save install media to USB flash device: Make a copy of the ISO file to a USB device.
  • z – Validate this CD ROM: Verify that the contents of the install medium matches the expected checksums.
