McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8 Patch 1 Hotfix 735512

 

Solution 1

All issues previously covered by this hotfix are now resolved in VSE 8.8 Patch 2 release which is available from the McAfee Downloads site using a valid Grant Number.

Patches are cumulative, therefore McAfee recommends that you install the latest one. For information about the latest releases, refer to KB51109.

VSE 8.8 Patch 4 is the latest patch available from the Downloads tab of the ServicePortal at https://support.mcafee.com/downloads.
NOTE: VSE 8.8 Patch 4 provides support for all supported Windows operating systems.

McAfee product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available from the McAfee Downloads site at: http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE:
 You will need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the McAfee Downloads site, as well as alternate locations for some products.

VSE 8.8 Patch 1 Hotfix 735512 is available to resolve the issues described in this article. 

NOTE: The hotfix Release Notes that include the installation instructions and details on known issues were initially attached to this article in VSE880HF735512.Zip, but have been removed since the release of VSE 8.8 P2.

735512 KB75007 Issue: When the Hotfix is installed on a machine with Host Intrusion Prevention (Host IPS), Host IPS blocks a McAfee process (mfehidin.exe) from setting Access Control List (ACL) on a McAfee driver (mfevtps).
Resolution: This Hotfix now stops the Host IPS Entercept Agent service before upgrading the syscore drivers and vscore files.
682177 KB72512 Issue: A STOP error (Bugcheck 7f) could occur with the McAfee filter driver due to lost content header information when transmitting through a raw socket on Windows 7. This issue was seen with some third-party VPN clients.
Resolution: The McAfee filter driver now ensures header information is preserved and forwarded through a raw socket.

Issue: Third-party products that inject DLLs into processes could cause the VirusScan Enterprise service (VsTskMgr.exe) to periodically poll data and frequently log event 516 entries.
Resolution: VirusScan Enterprise Task Manager service no longer causes prolific generation of the event 516.
