Environment

McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention (Host IPS) 8.0, 7.0
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8 Hotfix 625756

Problem

When installing VSE 8.8 Hotfix 625756 on a computer with Host IPS installed, the hotfix fails to install.

Cause

Host IPS effectively prevents the hotfix installation from being completed by blocking mfehidin.exe from setting the Access Control List on mfevtps.

Solution

This issue is resolved in VSE 8.8 Patch 2.

Issue resolutions in updates and major releases are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest version. To find the most recent release for your product, visit the Product Downloads site at http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

VSE 8.8 Update 11 is the latest update available from the Downloads tab on the ServicePortal at https://support.mcafee.com/downloads.

NOTE: VSE 8.8 Update 11 supports all supported Windows operating systems.

McAfee product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available from the Product Downloads site at: http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products.

Workaround

Before VSE upgrades the core drivers, you must temporarily disable Host IPS and stop its Agent service.
