Last Modified: 6/22/2016 EnvironmentMcAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux (VSEL) 1.9.x ProblemVSEL 1.9.x fails to start after installation. The following error displays when the nails service attempts to start: Error while checking MD5 checksums. Errors similar to the following display during installation: McAfeeVSEForLinux-1.7.0-installer: line 596: ed: command not found If the VSEL service is started, the following message displays: nails.initd: Error while checking MD5 checksums (/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/md5) CauseThe VSEL installer script requires the ed line editor to be installed. If the ed line editor is not installed, the VSEL installer completes with errors, but VSEL does not start because the md5 checksums fail.
SolutionUninstall VSEL and install the ed line editor from the installation media for your Linux operating system:
