Application error when launching Internet Explorer after a custom SiteAdvisor install
Technical Articles ID:   KB75696
Last Modified:  4/1/2015

McAfee SiteAdvisor Enterprise (SAE) 3.5

After installing SAE locally (standalone) and selecting a custom installation path, launching Internet Explorer (IE) causes Windows to display the following error:

A problem causes the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

The error displays each time Windows IE is launched.

The following details are recorded in the Windows event log:
Log Name: Application
Source:  Application Hang
Event ID: 1002
Level:  Error
The program iexplore.exe version 8.0.6001.18904 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel. Process ID: 344 Start Time: 01ccf5dc60bd8ad1 Termination Time: 0

The custom SAE installation path exceeds the 240 character installation path limit.

This is expected behavior. The default installation path for all operating systems is far less than the 240 character limit. Selecting the default installation path and installing silently (locally or with ePolicy Orchestrator), allows SAE to function as expected.
