Cause

The McAfee PreScan tool (now unsupported) used a version of the 4400 Scan Engine that is is not compatible with the DAT Update and Installation scripts posted with the 6881 DATs.

The presence of the following left over registry key causes the DAT update to fail:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\NATIVESC1000]

Solution

Use one of the following methods to remove the application plugin for the PreScan utility.

Manually remove the application plugin registry key

CAUTION: This article contains information about opening or modifying the registry.
  • The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
  • Before proceeding, McAfee strongly recommends backing up your registry and understanding the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a .REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.

  1. Click Start, Run, type regedit and click OK.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\NATIVESC1000]

  3. Right-click the NATIVESC1000 key and click Delete.
