When MSME is installed standalone to the Exchange server and then later managed by ePO, queries do not return results

Environment

McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange 8
Microsoft Windows 2010 R2
Microsoft Exchange 2008 SP2
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 4.6.4

Problem

If McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange 8 (MSME) is installed standalone to an Exchange server, and then at some point later is managed by an ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) server, none of the MSME queries run on the ePO server return any results.

In ePO, reports are generated by selecting Reporting, Queries & Reports, Shared Groups, McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange. From here, you can select any query and run it by clicking Run.

Cause

This is an issue with the McAfee Agent which McAfee development is investigating.

Solution

Restart the MSME 8 services on the Exchange server. After restarting the services, the queries generated in ePO will contain results.

  1. Click Start, Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. From the list, right-click the following services and select Restart:
McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange
McAfee Framework Service.
  1. Close the Services control panel.
NOTE: If you managed the Exchange server from ePO initially, and later deployed MSME from ePO, you will encounter the same issue. If this occurs, the McAfee Framework Service must be restarted as above.
