Files that begin with "." are accumulating in /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/
Technical Articles ID:
KB77126
Last Modified: 2/8/2017 EnvironmentMcAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux 2.0.x, 1.9.x
ProblemLarge files that begin with "." fill the /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/ directory and consume large amounts of hard drive space.
For example: 4.1G /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/.2.10840 21G /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/.2.20805 13G /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/.3.8291 7.9G /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/.4.3378 CauseVirusScan Enterprise for Linux creates these temporary files during an On-Demand Scan (ODS) and normally deletes them after the ODS completes. These files remain on the system if the ODS takes too long or is terminated before the scan completes.
Solution
This issue is resolved in VirusScan Enterprise for Linux 2.0.0 Hotfix 967083. After applying this hotfix, VirusScan Enterprise for Linux deletes all the older ODS task temporary files in the /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/ directory either when starting the nails service or when starting the new ODS task. McAfee product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available from the Product Downloads site at: https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-us/downloads/my-products.html.
NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. See KB56057 - How to download Enterprise product updates and documentation for more information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products. Workaround
To free up or recover space, you can safely delete all but the newest file.
