This support statement is provided by the Product Management Team.
Microsoft Windows regularly releases new operating system versions and supports upgrading an older operating system to the newer release. Examples: upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, or from Windows 7 to Windows 8.
VSE does
not support the upgrade of an operating system while VSE is installed, unless VSE 8.8
Patch 6 or later is installed. The operating environments of newer operating system releases are often so different, they require updated files from the product development team to support the new kernel and other features of the new operating system. McAfee can't guarantee the safety of the computing environment if VSE Patch 6 or later is not installed
before the operating system upgrade. This upgrade scenario is
not supported.
Supported operating system upgrade method:
- Before the operating system upgrade, upgrade VSE to Patch 6 or later.
If you are unable to upgrade to VSE 8.8 Patch 6 or later, you must uninstall VSE before you begin any operating system upgrade.
- Perform the operating system upgrade.
- Install the appropriate VSE release that has been approved to support the later operating system.
For details of all VSE-supported operating systems, see KB51111.
