80040230:McEFILEIOERROR appears occasionally in Product or Event logs after update process

Occasionally after an AutoUpdate, you see an error similar to the following in the Product Log or Event Log:

The Detected Items failed to store a record with error 80040230:McEFILEIOERROR


This message is generated when two internal MSME processes try to write to the Product Log at the same time.


You can safely ignore errors with similar numeric values when they occur during an AutoUpdate. McAfee will address the cause of these errors in a future release of Security for Exchange.

When this error is generated during an AutoUpdate, MSME experiences no detrimental effects or functional loss of security. The scanning and quarantining of items continue to work as expected, and no action is needed.

IMPORTANT: Multiple 80040230:McEFILEIOERROR errors (one entry per scanned item) and Event ID 2045 Scan Errors appearing in the logs simultaneously, are an indication that a different issue exists. These errors are indicative of either Database corruption or incorrect placement of the Detected Items database.
