The preferred installation method for VirusScan is
SetupVSE.exe installer, which is used to invoke the VSE-incompatible software checker.
IMPORTANT:
- VSE 8.8 Patch 8 and later include constraints to prevent the execution of the .MSI or .MSP packages to install or upgrade VSE. The packages can't perform actions such as installation prerequisite checks to block installation on incompatible environments. Customers on VSE versions earlier than VSE 8.8 Patch 8 are strongly advised to not use the MSI package. (The reason is the same as why it was removed in VSE 8.8 Patch 8.)
The following is extracted from the VSE 8.8 Patch 8 Release Notes:
Using .MSI or .MSP to start VirusScan Enterprise is now blocked and produces this error message: You must use SETUPVSE.EXE or SETUP.EXE to start VirusScan Enterprise installation.
- Incompatible software is defined as any third-party antivirus product or as a VSE version that is more than two revisions older than the current version. See the following articles for more information about incompatibility products with VSE:
- KB72251 - Products that can be removed when VSE 8.8 is installed
- KB73825 - Some third party file-based encryption software is incompatible with VSE
