Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint - all supported versions

Problem

You configure a DLP Endpoint Removable Storage Protection Rule to enforce a shared CD/DVD-ROM drive to read-only. As a result, a remote user can't access the CD/DVD-ROM drive.

NOTE: This issue does not affect a local user who accesses the computer locally.

Cause

This issue is related to Microsoft Access Control List (ACL) implementation.

When CD/DVD-Drive ACL is set to read-only, a remote user (without Local Administrator rights) is unable to access the shared drive.

Solution

To allow a remote user to access the shared CD/DVD drive, set Local Administrator rights.

Example scenario:

A computer with shared CD/DVD drive is named MachineA, and a remote user
UserB (non-administrator), is logged on to their computer (MachineB) and tries to access the CD on MachineA.

Create a domain group called AllowedCD.
Add UserB to the group AllowedCD.
Add AllowedCD group to the Local Administrators group on MachineA.
Log off UserB, log on to MachineB, and attempt to access the CD.
