How to install VirusScan Enterprise for Linux using ePolicy Orchestrator

Perform the steps in this article to deploy VSEL using ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO).
NOTE: VSEL 1.9 reaches End of Life on December 31, 2016. McAfee strongly recommends that you upgrade to a current version.
- Download and extract the VSEL installation files to your ePO server:
- Download McAfeeVSEForLinux-1.9.2.29197.zip or McAfeeVSEForLinux-2.0.2.29099.zip from the Product Downloads site.
- Extract the ZIP file to a temporary directory.
- Extract the .tar.gz file to a temporary directory.
- Log on to the ePO server as an administrator.
- Check in the installation packages:
IMPORTANT: Remove any patches or hotfixes for VSEL 1.7.0 or 1.7.1. You can either delete them or move them to the Previous branch.
- Click Menu, Software, Master Repository.
- Click Check In Package.
- Select the Package type as Product or Update (.ZIP) and browse to the McAfee Agent for Linux package MSA‑LNX_XXX_Package.ZIP extracted in the temporary directory.
- Click Next.
- Select a Branch.
- In Options, select the required option(s), and then click Save.
- Click Menu, Software, Master Repository.
- Click Check In Package.
- Select the Package type as Product or Update (.ZIP) and browse to the McAfeeVSEForLinux‑<build number>.zip file you extracted.
- Click Next.
- Select a Branch.
- In Options, select the required option(s), and then click Save.
- Check in the Extensions:
- Click Menu, Software, Extensions.
- Click Install Extension to install the McAfee Agent policy Extension.
- Click Browse, select the Extension file EPOAGENTMETA.ZIP, and then click OK on the Install Extension page.
- Click Menu, Software, Extensions.
- Click Install Extension to install the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux policy Extension.
- Click Browse, select the Extension file LYNXSHLDXXXX.ZIP, and then click OK on the Install Extension page.
- Click Menu, Software, Extensions.
- Click Install Extension to install the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux reports Extension.
- Click Browse, select the Extension file LYNXSHLDXXXXPARSER.ZIP, and then click OK on the Install Extension page.
- Click Install Extension to install the Help Extension.
- Click Browse, select the Extension file help_vsel_XXX.zip, and then click OK on the Install Extension page.
NOTE: The Help Extension is located under Extensions, McAfee, Help Content.
- Create and download the agent installation package:
- From the System Tree, click New Systems.
- Under How to add systems, select Create and download agent installation package, click Non‑Windows, select McAfee Agent for Linux 4.8.0 (Current), and click OK.
- Download the file to your local system. From Download file, right‑click Agent Package and select Save Target As..
IMPORTANT: If you are deploying the product on a Ubuntu client system, download the installdeb.sh file to the local client. In ePO, you must copy this file from C:\Program Files\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\DB\Software\Current\EPOAGENT3700LYNX\Install\0409.
- On the Linux client, type the following command and press ENTER to open a terminal session:
sh install.sh –i
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the ports required for ePO to communicate with the Linux client are open in both directions. To check the default list of ports between McAfee Agent and ePO, see KB66797.
- Deploy the package:
- On the ePO server, click Menu, Systems, System Tree.
- Create a new task to install VSEL on the client Linux computer. Click Assigned Client Tasks, Actions, New Client Task Assignment.
- Schedule the client task:
- Under Task to Schedule, select McAfee Agent as the Product, select Product Deployment as the Task Type, and then click Create New Task.
- Under Client Task Catalog, select Linux as the Target platform, VirusScan Enterprise for Linux <build number> under Products and components, set the Action as Install, select the appropriate Language, and then click Save.
NOTE: If you want to deploy VSEL with customized settings, copy the nails.options file to the /root and "/" directory on the Linux client. For more information on how to create the nails.options file, refer to the "Silent installation" section in the VirusScan Enterprise for Linux Installation Guide.
- Click Next and schedule this task immediately or as required.
- Click Next to view a summary of the task.
- Click Save and send an agent wake‑up call. Wait for the deployment task to complete.
