File may execute from DVD-RAM disk that is FAT formatted
Technical Articles ID:   KB81531
Last Modified:  1/11/2017

McAfee Application Control (MAC) 6.1.1 (and earlier)

Microsoft Windows (all supported versions)

A file can run from a File Allocation Table (FAT) formatted DVD-RAM disk.

By default, MAC prevents the execution of files from removable disks such as USB, CD-ROM, and DVD because UDFS and CDFS do not include these in the list of supported file systems. Running or executing files from removable disk is supported when:
  • MAC is in Update mode.
  • The drive representing the disk is configured as Trusted.
If a DVD-RAM disk is formatted to FAT file system, MAC does not prevent the execution or running of files in Enable mode, even if no Trusted configuration is in place.

This issue is resolved in MAC (and later).

McAfee product software, upgrades, maintenance releases, and documentation are available from the Product Downloads site at: http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products.
