McAfee Enterprise Mobility Management 10.2.x

This support statement is provided by the Product Management Team.

Intel Security is announcing the End of Support (EOS) for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) version 10.2.x. This version will not be supported after September 27, 2014.
Intel Security recommends that customers still using this legacy version plan to migrate to EMM 12.0 before their EOS date. EMM 11.0, featuring integration with ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), was released on May 20, 2013 and EMM 12.0 was released on March 17, 2014.
Several improvements and enhancements have been made to EMM since moving to ePO as the management platform. For example, policies and administrative permissions are more granular, and policy changes no longer require end-user interaction. Because EMM versions after 10.2 use ePO as the management platform, devices must be migrated to ePO because there is not a direct upgrade path.
By migrating to EMM 12.0, customers will get support for the latest operating systems, many new features, improved security, improved user experience and management, and much more. Intel Security is committed to delivering the highest quality products to our valued customers and has made significant strides over the past year in both quality and functionality.

Key features of EMM 12.0
Android security enhancements:
  • Managed VirusScan Mobile Security (VMS): Gives IT and security officers the confidence to offer corporate access to Android devices by:

    • Enforcing the use of VMS to sync corporate data.
    • Blocking devices with malware, out of date scans, or DATs.
    • Getting malware events reported as Threat Events in ePO.

  • Android app reputation uses McAfee’s mobile cloud, backed by McAfee Global Threat Intelligence (GTI), to defend against new malicious Android apps. EMM 12.0 gives the enterprise total control with report-only capabilities, and local white and black lists.
  • Secure Container for Android includes FIPS-compliant encryption.
iOS enhancements:
  • IT can specify which apps can be used to open attachments to corporate email on iOS devices, providing security and separation of personal and work data on the device.
  • Certificate management and distribution (PKI), for iOS VPN and WiFi profiles makes connecting to corporate networks more secure and easy.
  • Single sign-on to corporate managed apps or URLs simplifies the end-user experience.
New mobile Threat Events for improved situational awareness and remediation:
  • Mobile events such as jailbroken or rooted device, malware detected, malicious, suspicious, or blacklisted app detected are now ePO Threat Events, so they can be rolled into broader Threat Event logs, dashboards, and reports along with other endpoint events and take advantage of ePO automation.
Improved user experience:
  • End users receive more specific alerts and remediation information on compliance events. Administrators can see the reason for non-compliance when viewing a user’s device in the ePO system tree.
  • Enhanced workflows and use of standard Android icons for the Secure Container for Android application make the end-user experience much more intuitive.

Continuing benefits from the EMM 11.0 release:

  • Policy management, configuration, and security of mobile devices, laptops, and desktop PCs in the same console (ePO)
  • Granular policy options including per user, device, and operating system
  • Flexible, role-based administration including mobile specific permissions
  • Drag-and-drop dashboards for mobile or all managed systems (standard and custom) for inventory management, situational awareness, compliance reporting, and IT audits
  • Support for environments with both corporate and personally owned (BYOD) devices
  • Over-the-air enrollment and policy delivery
  • Enforcement of authentication and encryption
  • Partial or full wiping of lost or stolen devices to prevent corporate data loss
  • Remote device locking for lost devices
  • Hosting and distribution of commercial and enterprise apps, including support for Apple’s Volume Purchase Program
