McAfee Application Control service is taking large memory on the endpoint

Environment

McAfee Application Control (MAC) 6.1.2 (and earlier)

Problem

Systems running MAC 6.1.2 (or earlier) can experience unusual high memory usage.

Solution

This issue is fixed with MAC 6.1.3, which is available from the McAfee Downloads site.

If you are unable to perform an upgrade, the workaround described later in this article should be applied.

Workaround

Complete these steps to switch off the Solidcore inventory-diff feature:
  1. Log on to the ePO console.
  2. Click MenuPolicy, Client Task Catalog.
  3. Click Actions, New Task.
  4. Select SC: Run Commands from the Task Types drop-down list and click OK.
  5. Enter a Task Name (Example: Disable Solidcore Inventory Diff) and provide a Description (optional).
  6. Type the following:

    config set InvDiffConfig=1
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click Assign for the new task.
  9. Click My Organization as group to assign the client task.
  10. Push the client task to Solidcore Agents by performing an agent wakeup call.
