Environment

McAfee Rogue System Detection (RSD) 5.x

Summary

McAfee Agent uses a product code string that is used as an identifier. For example, in Rogue System Detection 5.0, the product code is RSD_____4700. This design can be misleading because it looks like there is version information encoded into the product code. But, the product code is not used for versioning and can't be relied on to indicate the exact product version.

Problem

The RSD product code in McAfee Agent does not match the actual Rogue System Detection version.

Cause

Product codes are intended to be used as identifiers and do not necessarily reflect the version of the product.

Solution

To determine the version of the McAfee Agent plug-in for RSD, run the following query against the ePO database:

  SELECT
leafNode.NodeName
 , prodProp.ProductFamily
 , prodProp.ProductCode
 , prodProp.ProductVersion
FROM
  dbo.EPOProdPropsView_RSD prodProp
JOIN
 dbo.EPOLeafNode leafNode
 ON prodProp.LeafNodeID = leafNode.AutoID

NOTE: In the ePO database, there are similar database views for other McAfee products with the naming convention dbo.EPOProdPropsView_<product>.

To determine the version of the ePO extension for RSD:
  1. Log on to the ePO console.
  2. Click Menu, Software, Extensions.
  3. Click Rogue System Detection. The version displays in the right pane.
