How to manually edit the MEG 7.x configuration files when ePO management is enabled on the appliance
Technical Articles ID:   KB82606
Last Modified:  7/13/2018

Environment

McAfee Email Gateway (MEG) 7.x
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

Summary

When you manually modify the MEG 7.x appliance configuration files (XML files, and so on), the changes are lost when ePO is configured to manage the appliance. To allow for ePO to include the same static change, the policy must be updated in the ePO Policy Catalog.

Use the following steps to edit the MEG 7.x configuration files without them being overwritten:
  1. In the MEG 7.x management console:
    1. Select System, Component Management, ePO.
    2. Deselect Allow configuration to be applied from ePO.
    3. Apply the changes.
  2. Edit and apply the MEG 7.x appliance configuration file as per your required solution.
  3. In the MEG 7.x management console:
    1. Select System, Component Management, ePO.
    2. Select Export Appliance Configuration.
  4. In the ePO console:
    1. Select Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.
    2. Select McAfee Email Gateway 7.x from the Product drop-down list.
    3. Click Import.
    4. Click Choose File.
    5. Browse to the epo_config_xxxxxxxx.xml file exported from the MEG management console.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Click OK to overwrite the existing policy configured in ePO.
  5. In the MEG 7.x management console:
    1. Select System, Component Management, ePO.
    2. Enable Allow configuration to be applied from ePO.
