McAfee Management of Native Encryption (MNE) - all supported versions
McAfee Agent (MA) 4.8.0 Patch 2 (Builds 1500 or 1680) and later
Apple OS X Mountain Lion, Mavericks and later releases

For details of MNE supported environments, see KB79375.

With MA 4.8 Patch 2 and later, it is possible to provision MA in unmanaged mode to connect to the ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) server for remote management. The McAfee ePO Remote Provisioning tool bundled with MNE 2.0 and later provides an easy-to-use interface for remote provisioning with the ePO server.

To configure the agent, the ePO Remote Provisioning tool requires the ePO server's IP address and the username and password of the user to be entered. The user can be limited to an executive reviewer role with limited privileges on the ePO server.

Provision MA running in unmanaged mode to connect to the ePO server for remote management:
  1. Create a user on the ePO server with restricted privileges:
    1. Log on to the ePO server console with a supported browser.
    2. Click MenuUser Management, Users.
    3. Under Users, click New User.
    4. Enter the user name.
    5. Set the logon status to Enabled.
    6. Select the authentication type ePO authentication.
    7. Set the password for the user.
    8. Add other details such as Full Name, Email Address, and Phone Number. (These are optional fields.)
    9. Select the permission set Executive Reviewer under Manually assigned permission sets.
NOTE: The default permission set for Executive Reviewer has view permissions to dashboards, events, and contacts, and can view information that relates to the entire System Tree.
  2. Provision MA on an OS X client system using an ePO user:
    1. Launch the McAfee ePO Remote Provisioning Tool, obtained from the MNE extracted package located under /Applications/Utilities/.
    2. Enter the IP address of the ePO server, username, and password.
    3. Click Configure.
    4. Enter the OS X admin password when prompted.
The Remote Provisioning Tool will now connect with the ePO server to provision.
