Managed tasks do not appear in the VirusScan Enterprise console after installing McAfee Agent 5.0.x

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.0.x
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8

Problem

Tasks created through ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) (managed tasks) do not appear in the VSE 8.x console after you either perform either of the following:
  • Upgrade from MA 4.8 to MA 5.0.x
    or
  • Installation of MA 5.0.x to a new system

The tasks appear only after the user manually restarts the VirusScan Enterprise Task Manager (VsTskMgr.exe) service, or performs a system restart.

ePO scheduled On-Demand tasks fail to run on the clients. The client does receive the policy, but fails to run at the specified time.

NOTE:Run Client Task Now that the user sets locally to Immediate in the VSE Console does run successfully when initiated manually.

Solution

The McAfee Agent product development team is investigating this issue. As a temporary measure, implement the workaround shown below.

Workaround

Perfom one of the following on the client after a new managed tasks is created until a code fix can be provided:
  • Manually restart the VirusScan Enterprise Task Manager (VsTskMgr.exe) service,
    or
  • Perform a system restart.
