McAfee Agent 4.x Logging policy does not migrate to 5.x remote Logging policy
Technical Articles ID:   KB82896
Last Modified:  11/17/2016

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.0.0
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x, 4.x

Problem

The MA 4.x Logging policy does not migrate correctly to the MA 5.x Logging policy.

Cause

This issue is caused by technical differences between the Extensions.

The McAfee Agent 4.x Logging policy contains items that are specific to Windows or non-Windows platforms and utilizes different items for activation on the endpoint. The Logging policy section in the 4.x extension contains the following details:

Enable Agent Activity log
File Message limits in lines(On windows) or KB (on Unix)
      Enable detailed logging
Enable remote access to log

The McAfee Agent 5.x Logging policy includes the ability to enable debug logging for all platforms, disable all logging, and increase the log size and the amount of logs rolled over. The Logging policy section in the 5.x extension now contains these details:

Application logging:
Enable application logging
   Enable detailed logging
   Log file size limit (MB):
   Roll over count:
Remote logging:
 Enable remote Logging
    Limit in lines:
 Enable remote access to log

Solution

Update any existing McAfee Agent Logging policies to the new settings. For more details on the new settings, see PD25187.
