Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint – all supported versions

Problem

You see one of the following issues:

Although correctly configured with valid trigger conditions, Web Post Protection Rules fail to work.
A previously configured Web Post Protection Rule suddenly stops working although there is no change in the policy or update to Internet Explorer or operating system.

Cause

The option Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) is set to Disabled in Internet Explorer settings.

Solution

Use one or more of the following three methods:

Change the option in Internet Explorer (requires administrator-level access)
Change the registry key value
Change the Active Directory Group Policy

The Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB 298931 describes how to disable the Enable third-party browser extensions option. This change must be reversed to enable the Data Loss Prevention Endpoint Internet Explorer COM add-in.
