Applications stop responding or system fails to shut down with Application Control enabled

McAfee Application Control (MAC) 6.1.x
McAfee Syscore (Mfehidk.sys) 15.3

Microsoft Windows 32-bit (all supported versions)


Applications such as a web browser, Microsoft Office, McAfee Agent, VirusScan console, or others, randomly become unresponsive, or the system stops responding at shutdown, when MAC is enabled in an environment with either or both of the following components installed:
  • McAfee Agent (MA) 5.0
  • McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8 Update 4 Hotfix 929019
This issue occurs with McAfee Syscore (Mfehidk.sys) version 15.3, which is installed with MA 5.0 or VSE 8.8 Update 4 Hotfix 929019. 

To validate whether you are experiencing the issue described in this article, check the version of <system drive>\windows\system32\drivers\Mfehidk.sys. The version associated with this issue is


This issue is resolved in MAC and later.
