Environment

McAfee SIEM Enterprise Security Manager (NitroView ESM) 9.5.x, 9.4.x
McAfee SIEM Event Receiver (NitroView Receiver) 9.5.x, 9.4.x

Summary

This article provides some useful commands and things to look for when troubleshooting Direct Attached Storage (DAS) issues with the McAfee SIEM

Solution

Use these commands when troubleshooting DAS issues with the SIEM:
  • To get an overview/status of the DAS and its disks, type the following command and press ENTER:

    /sbin/MegaCli64 -LDInfo -Lall -aALL

Items to be examined in the output, under each virtual drive for both Adapter 0 and Adapter 1:
    • Raid Level (Primary-1 for Adapter 0; Primary-6 for Adapter 1)
    • State (this should appear as Optimal)

  • For more detailed information on the physical disks, type the following command and press ENTER:

    /sbin/MegaCli64 -PDList -aALL

Items to examine in the output:
    • Status
    • Physical disk location (look for Enclosure Device ID and Slot Number)
    • Firmware State
    • Foreign State

  • If the device is beeping, make a note of the beeping code because this will help to identify the issue.

NOTE: The beep code can vary depending on firmware. You can find the firmware version using the following command:

/sbin/MegaCli64 -adpallinfo -a1 | grep 'FW Package Build'
