Problem

VM systems that use the Hyper-V platform with pass-through disks may not boot after VSE 8.8 Patch 5 is installed.

System Change

VSE 8.8 Patch 5 was installed.

Solution

This issue is resolved in VSE 8.8 Patch 6.

Patches are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.

Updates are available when you log on to the ServicePortal at: https://support.mcafee.com/downloads.

Workaround

Disable the mfedisk.sys driver in the registry:

  • Before proceeding, Technical Support strongly recommends that you back up your registry and understand the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
  1. Back up your registry.
  2. Navigate to the following key, and modify the UpperFilters value by removing ONLY mfedisk in the string:  
            
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}  
      
  3. Reboot the system.
