Endpoint Security installation fails if there are issues with temp folder access

McAfee Endpoint Security (ENS) 10.x


ENS fails to properly install if user access to the user temp folder is restricted.

The following error appears in the FrmInst_.log file:
2015-06-18 14:26:11 E #556 UI Ins   Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and that you can
write to it.
McAfee_Common_Bootstrapper_xxxxxxxxxxxx.log :

To correct this issue, change the temp location:
  1. To change the temp folder location, do the following: 
    1. Press Windows+R, type sysdm.cpl, and click OK.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Select Environment Variables.
    4. Change the value for the TEMP and TMP variables to c:\temp.
    5. Click OK.
  2. Restart the system.
  3. Install ENS using the silent installation.
  4. Verify that installation logs are present in c:\temp.
  5. After confirming that the installation is successful, change the values of the TEMP and TMP variables, from step 1d, to the original location %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp.
