Technical Articles ID:   KB85293
Last Modified:  3/17/2017

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8, Patch 4 and later

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1 (Service Pack 2)
x86 (32-bit) systems only

A bugcheck 8E occurs randomly for Windows Server 2008 R1 on 32-bit systems after VSE 8.8 Patch 4 (or later) is installed.

NOTE: There have been no reports of this issue with VSE 8.8 Patch 6, but the code suggests the issue can still occur with that release. It is a timing related issue, and it is possible that other changes within Patch 6 have made this incident less likely to occur.

Sporadic blue screen errors occur with VSE 8.8 Patch 4 (or later) on 32-bit Windows Server 2008 R1 systems.

NOTE: In this instance, sporadic refers to the frequency, meaning this issue could occur after 30 days or it could occur after one day. There is no known cause or catalyst at this time, but engineering confirms the sporadic nature of the frequency based on data received to date.
