McAfee investigated this issue and a solution is currently available. This solution is currently not generally available, but is in Released to Support (RTS) status. To obtain the RTS build, log on to the ServicePortal and create a Service Request (https://support.mcafee.com/ServicePortal/faces/serviceRequests/createSR). Include this article number in the Problem Description field.

- 5.0.0 - Issue: Events are not generated and sent from a Mac client to ePO on a McAfee Agent (MA) 5.0.x managed system.
Workaround: Revert to MA 4.8 Update 3 on Mac OS X systems.
- KB81828 4.3.0 Expected behavior Issue: When you upgrade Endpoint Encryption for Files and Folders (EEFF) 4.x ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) extension to the FRP 5.0 help extension, you see the following error (using EEFF 4.2 and FRP 5.0 as an example): "Cannot upgrade extension eeff_help to version because version 420.45 is already installed."
The error occurs because of a change in the extension version convention that was adopted from FRP 4.3.0 onwards. This issue cannot be fixed; implement the workaround.
Workaround: Remove the EEFF extension and check in the FRP extension. See the related article for details.

In ePO navigate to File and Removable Media Protection 5.0.1, FRP Policy Settings, Authentication, Encryption Key Options.
The following English strings have been changed since the FRP 5.0 release:
  • Key use inactivity (system unlocked)
  • Key use inactivity timeout (system unlocked)
The equivalent translated strings for (DE, FR, ES, JP) have not yet been updated. The strings are translated according to previous FRP 5.0 English text and have yet to be updated to reflect the 5.0.1 EN string change.

After you log on to the ePO console on a German operating system, navigate to File and Removable Media Protection 5.0.1. Then click FRP Policy Settings, Authentication, Encryption Key Options [File and Removable Media Protection 5.0.1 FRP-Richtlinieneinstellungen > Authentifizierung > Verschlüsselungsschlüssel-Optionen]

NOTE: The German translation for McAfee Tray is incorrect in the given context.
1100786 - 5.0.0 5.0.1 Issue: [User Interface] The Location Based Protection policy page shows enabled elements when Admin has permission to view only.
1102154 - 5.0.0 5.0.1 Issue: [User Interface] The ePO page shown for Administrator led Removable Media Recovery is not cleared when the user navigates away from the page. It displays retained data the next time the page is accessed in a session.
1100015 - 5.0.0 5.0.1 Issue: [Optical Media] When you assign an Optical Media policy using Policy Assignment Rules, this policy does not always override the default policy.
Workaround: Ensure that required system-assigned policy is in place for Optical Media.

1241663 - 5.0.1 - Issue: Already hidden Grant Key policy type becomes temporarily visible after you upgrade to FRP 5.x.

  • Does not affect any FRP functionality.
  • The issue self-resolves 15–30 minutes after the upgrade.
1158545 KB87894 5.0.2 - Issue: Deployment of FRP 5.0.2 to Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) fails when deployed via ePO in a Terminal Server environment.
Workaround: Install FRP 5.0.2 locally on the server using the MSI package.
1153159 KB87674 5.0.1 - Issue: Administrator is unable to edit a File and Removable Media Protection Policy after you exempt a device that ends with a backslash (\).
Workaround: Do not add a device exclusion that end with a backslash.
1118476 - 5.0.1 - Issue: A custom recovery message that is configured as part of Removable Media policy is also shown for (but not relevant to) Optical Media 5.0.1.
1216685 - 5.0.0 - Issue: [ePO] If a User Personal Key (UPK) is converted into a regular key and then assigned to a client system, the key is not delivered to the client.
1217526 - 5.0.0 - Issue: When you try to add a second location-based policy for the same cloud provider, the following error message is displayed:
The following cloud sync folder was specified more than once.
Although this behavior is expected, when you dismiss the error, the ePO page displays a constant "Loading..." message; the previous page is never displayed.
1153339 - 5.0.0 - Issue: The Grant Keys Policy is visible briefly after you upgrade the extension from 5.0.0/5.0.1 to 5.0.2.

OneNote cannot access the notebook cache file. It might be corrupted. OneNote will restart and create a new cache file. Error code: 0xE000013C

Issue: Running the FRP upgrade task might fail if the AD server connection to ePO is broken.
Workaround: After you re-establish AD server connection, make sure that all ePO services are restarted.
888565 - 4.3.0 - Issue: Policy filtering does not work when you import keys with admin levels from EEFF 3.x and the same set of keys was imported earlier.
- 4.3.0 - Issue: When a Global Admin creates a duplicate of an existing FRP role on the FRP Roles Settings page, no error is reported.
811777 - 4.3.0 - Issue: When you access any item of the pie chart in the Protected Device reports, non-localized text appears unexpectedly on the FRP Dashboard screen.
1245915 KB90730 5.0.8 Expected behavior Issue: FRP does not support encryption and decryption of files and folders that are case sensitive.
901597 - 4.3.0 Expected behavior Issue: [ePO 5.x] When you use the ePO Policy Comparison feature, the FRP default local Key is shown as [Value is Blank].
Explanation: The field that shows the blank value is used to hold the unique identifier (GUID) of the key. But, no GUID is stored for a "Default Local Key" (DLK) and so the value displayed is blank.
893609 - 4.3.0 Expected behavior Issue: FRP Key Management does not allow chevron characters (< and >) for FRP Key names.

There are no known functional issues when operating FRP with macOS in dark Mode.

When the Offline browser is run directly from the USB device and the user forcefully removes the USB, the operating system crashes the process. The reason is because it cannot find the image for the process.
Workaround: Quit the offline browser application before removing the USB device from the system.
1081083 - 5.0.0 Expected behavior Issue: Enterprise Policy Management (EPM) Frameworks/McAfee Reporter process fails to open the offline browser app or the initialization notification prompt, if more than one user is logged on to the OS X desktop sessions. This limitation is with EPM/McAfee Reporter.
Workaround: Open the offline browser application manually.
1084670 - 5.0.0 Expected behavior Issue: FRP on Mac OS X systems generates ePO FRP events for all volumes and partitions available on the removable media when they are connected or removed from the system.
Workaround: McAfee recommends that only one volume/partition is created on the Removable Media (USB) disk.
1084903 - 5.0.0 Expected behavior Issue: Removable Media Device initialization on Hierarchical File System (HFS) or HFS+ file system formatted removable media is slower compared to FAT or EXFAT file system types.
Workaround: Always format your removable media as FAT or EXFAT file system for faster initialization on OS X systems. Use of FAT or EXFAT format also provides device cross-platform compatibility between OS X and Windows.

Workaround: Mac offsite application is provisioned when the USB device is initialized on an FRP client.
954694 - 4.3.0 - Issue: For some applications such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, documents consist of multiple files. These multi-file documents are not saved back automatically to an encrypted container after opening via the Mac offsite application.
Workaround: Multi-file documents can be manually copied out of the encrypted container, edited, and copied back into the encrypted container via the Mac offsite application.
944617 - 4.3.0 - Issue: When dragging files into the encrypted container via the Mac offsite application, files cannot be dropped into subfolders.
Workaround: Navigate to the subfolder by double-clicking on it, and then copy files into the browser window.
