System Change

Microsoft Windows update KB3072630 or KB3139923 was installed.

Typically this error occurs when KB3072630 is present without KB3139923, or vice versa.

If neither of the two updates are present, the issue does not occur (or it is a different issue with a similar symptom).

If both of the updates are present, the issue does not occur (or it is a different issue with a similar symptom).

Verify that Microsoft Windows updates KB3072630 and KB3139923 are both present and installed on the impacted system.

To view and determine what Microsoft Windows updates are installed, run the following command using an administrator command prompt:

wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\hotfix.txt"

This outputs a full list of installed updates into a text document named hotfix.txt located in the %USERPROFILE% location.

Temporarily disable (or uninstall) KB3072630 and temporarily uninstall KB3139923 prior to the installation of MA, ePO, or VSE:
  1. Uninstall KB3139923 from Control PanelPrograms and Features or Apps & features (depending on your version of Windows).
  2. Temporarily disable the security fix in KB3072630:
    1. Press Windows+R, type regedit in the Open box, and click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:

NOTE: If this subkey does not exist, create it.
    3. On the Edit menu, select NewDWORD Value.
    4. For the DWORD name, type RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 1 and then click OK.
  3. If you uninstalled KB3072630 and/or KB3139923, reboot the system.
NOTE: If you only temporarily disabled KB3072630, you do not need to reboot the system.
  4. Install the required application (MA, ePO, or VSE).
NOTE: If temporarily disabling the security fix in KB3072630 fails to resolve the issue, the only other option is to uninstall it, and then try to install the application again.
  5. After the installation succeeds, re-apply KB3072630 and/or KB3139923. If you temporarily disabled KB3072630, reset the Value data for RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy to 0 to re-enable the security fix for KB3072630.
