How to disable Application and Change Control manually

Summary

Perform the following steps if you want to disable MACC manually:

Windows:
CAUTION: This article contains information about opening or modifying the registry.
  • The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
  • Before proceeding, Technical Support strongly recommends that you back up your registry and understand the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
  1. Boot the system to Safe Mode (press F8 before the Windows boot screen).
  2. Open the Registry editor. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and click OK.
  3. Navigate to the following registry key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\swin\Parameters]
     
  4. Double-click DWORD RTEModeOnReboot and change the value to 0.
  5. Reboot the system. Application Control and Change Control should now be disabled.
Linux:
  1. Start the system in the single user mode.
  2. Open the Application Control configuration file at /etc/mcafee/solidcore/solidcore.conf.
  3. Change the value of parameter RTEModeOnReboot to be 0x0.
  4. Run the MACC service manually (/<install‑dir>/mcafee/solidcore/scripts/scsrvc ‑d).
This action starts MACC in Disabled mode.
